So for a long time, I wasn’t a book subscription box person. Then I tried Fairyloot last year and was impressed, but I didn’t think I would find another book thing to convince me to spend my money. Well, that changed this month when I finally caved and did Book of the Month. I had heard of this subscription service on Booktube quite a bit, like on Bookables channel for example.
Book of the Month is a subscription box that has 5 new choices every month and you can pick up to 3 books to be sent to you. While they mainly do adult novels in many genres, they do YA and have Sci-fi and Fantasy titles as well. Some popular books likeΒ The City of Brass, Little & Lion, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, ArtemisΒ and others have been previous selections for Book of the Month. I chose the option for the monthly option, which is only $14.99 and shipping is free! Getting 3 books for like $14.99 is pretty awesome (it is more if you pick previous selected books, they are $9.99 each). Unfortunately, they don’t ship internationally but hopefully they will one day.
I got a deal where I got a free book credit when I signed up so I got 2 books (yeah I derped and didn’t do three…) and I just got the box earlier this week! Here are my picks:
The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan
Release Date: March 20th (US), 2018 from Little Brown
This does come out this upcoming Tuesday but I did get it a week early with Book of the Month. This magical realism debut novel has been making the rounds on the hype train and also receiving many starred reviews and glowing reviews as well. This is about a girl whose mother commits suicide and after, this girl thinks her mother turned into bird. She then goes to Taiwan to meet her grandparents for the first time and discovers many things along the way. This book was the main reason why I wanted to get Book of the Month; I was so intrigued that I couldn’t help but sign up. I plan to read this in April π
A Million Junes by Emily Henry
Release Date: May 16th, 2017 by Razorbill
This book was my free book credit when signing up; I only wanted YA books to try out this month and I have heard good things about this book. It’s a “Romeo and Juliet” type story with a girl and boy from two rival families falling in love. I have heard that it’s also a magical realism novel and does deal with both grief and love. I mainly hear amazing things Marines from mynameismarines on YouTube. I also hope to read this in April.
There’s my picks for my first Book of the Month! I think it’s a really good deal for new books and they do have a decent selection for books, especially if you primarily read adult novels. I look forward to seeing the picks will be in the future, especially maybe new favorites π
Now, for more pictures of Leo! He’s a year and a few months already which is insane! He’s never aware of his size when he wants to sit on people and has been becoming quite the lick monster (let’s face it, that’s adorable). There’s also a few other animal pictures too π

Have you heard of Book of the Month? Have you read the books I mentioned and if so, what did you think of them? What book subscription boxes do you like?
I got both of those books from Book of the Month as well! What a coincidence XD I really liked A Million Junes, it was more emotional than I thought it’d be… some tears were shed XD

I have heard of Book of the Month but decided against it because I like the bookish goodies that a lot of the others come with! I love the pictures of the animals! They are all so cute! Especially Hanny (I’m a cat person) and you are right he is a very majestic floof π

That’s cool π I know people go one way or another when it comes to the bookish items. I like them for sure, but I admit I’m picky. Thank you π I love having 3 stinkers. Hanny is very photo ready when he wants to be lol
