Happy Saturday everyone! Sorry this is up a bit late. It’s been a busy weekend so far and I’m glad I made it in time to let you know about a Sneak Peek you can read on NetGalley! This upcoming YA book, out in August, is getting a ton of hype. So when I saw that I could read part of it in the “Read Now” section, I couldn’t say no! The book is…
Title: Seafire (Seafire #1)
Author: Natalie C. Parker
Genre: YA Fantasy
Release Date: August 28th 2018 from Razorbill
Goodreads Synopsis: After her family is killed by corrupt warlord Aric Athair and his bloodthirsty army of Bullets, Caledonia Styx is left to chart her own course on the dangerous and deadly seas. She captains her ship, the Mors Navis, with a crew of girls and women just like her, whose lives have been turned upside down by Aric and his men. The crew has one misson: stay alive, and take down Aric’s armed and armored fleet.
But when Caledonia’s best friend and second-in-command just barely survives an attack thanks to help from a Bullet looking to defect, Caledonia finds herself questioning whether or not to let him join their crew. Is this boy the key to taking down Aric Athair once and for all…or will he threaten everything the women of the Mors Navis have worked for?
So this sample includes the prologue and the first two chapters and it gives you a really good idea of what kind of story this is. From what I read, there isn’t any fantasy elements in there except the ships kinda sounding a bit steam punky. But I loved how the author builds up the story with showing how Caldeonia gets to where she is with wanting revenge. This sample was so fast paced and engaging that I read all of this today! This felt like a genuine pirate story and sea adventure which I know so many people will love.
Honestly, I don’t have any complaints except that I wish I had the full ARC to read lol. The pacing was perfect, the bits of world building feel unique and made have a bit of wanderlust and I loved seeing Caledonia and her crew. Everything feels natural and effortless in this world and it has a good amount of action in it to get your appetite going for the full book. This was the perfect sampler to read right now with the book coming out very soon. Need something quick to read? Love pirate books? Go get this on NetGalley 🙂
Have you read the full book? Are you excited for this book? Do you have any other pirate books or books set on the sea that you would recommend?
