Title: A Curse So Dark and Lonely #1
Author: Brigid Kemmerer
Genre: YA Contemporary/Fantasy
Release Date: January 29, 2019 from Bloomsbury YA
Goodreads Synopsis: It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.
Nothing has ever been easy for Harper Lacy. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother barely holding their family together while constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, she learned to be tough enough to survive. But when she tries to save someone else on the streets of Washington, DC, she’s instead somehow sucked into Rhen’s cursed world.
Break the curse, save the kingdom.
A prince? A monster? A curse? Harper doesn’t know where she is or what to believe. But as she spends time with Rhen in this enchanted land, she begins to understand what’s at stake. And as Rhen realizes Harper is not just another girl to charm, his hope comes flooding back. But powerful forces are standing against Emberfall . . . and it will take more than a broken curse to save Harper, Rhen, and his people from utter ruin
Oh man you guys! I had heard of this book when it was announced and at first, I was mildly excited but not dying to read it. But then reviews have been coming out, talking about the great disability rep and how refreshing the story is, especially for being a Beauty and the Beast retelling. So after hearing some great reviews, my reader brain is now DYING for this!
I have always been a huge fan of Beauty and the Beast retellings, especially since I love Hunted by Meagan Spooner and the beloved Beauty by Robin McKinley. This is a story that never gets old for me. So when I heard that this story deals more with a girl finding a fantasy world and seeing if she can save a kingdom is pretty freaking cool. Plus the enchantress, from what I hear, is a more central villain and there’s war and politics involved! So all of these details have made my hands desperate for getting a copy of it. Luckily it’s not too much longer before it comes out, but like I said, it’s a DIRE waiting on Wedndesday for this beautiful book 🙂
Have you read this upcoming book? If so, did you love it? What Beauty and the Beast stories are your favorite?
