Don’t you love it when your TBR keeps getting bigger because of all the new releases that keep getting announced? It’s always fun even though my eyes widen a bit when seeing all the ones I want to read when they get announced. So this is officially round two of my anticipated releases, including books that have been announced recently or have a pretty official 2018 release date. I did do my original list back at the end of last year and you can see it here:
2018 Anticipated Releases Round One
With this round two, there is no order except for my number one and number two pick, which shouldn’t surprise anyone if you read my blog at all. *All release dates may change, but these are the correct dates by the time this post is published* Let’s jump in!
1. Skyward by Brandon Sanderson
Publication Date: November 6th 2018
This cover got released this month or last month and it’s awesome! This is Sanderson’s new YA book of a new series. It follows a girl who wants to be a pilot more than anything. Her world is at war with aliens and she finds a ship to take her skyward. You guys know how I much love Sanderson’s book and I’m beyond excited for November!
2. The Caged Queen (Iskari #2)
Release Date: September 25th 2018
*Cue girl screaming* I lovedย The Last Namsaraย this month so I automatically needed to put book two on my TBR. This book follows Roa, one of the female side characters from the first book. It follows her story of her past with her sister dying due to someone’s fault and how she’s dealing with the events of the first book. The author has said that it’s a companion novel but characters from the first one will appear. This covers just speak to me as well! Roa is a very strong girl and I’m dying to learn more about her ๐
3. What the Woods Keep
Publication Date: September 18th
THIS COVER! This cover makes me love pink for this aesthetic ๐ I saw this on NetGalley this month, read the synopsis and immediately wished for it. It’s about a girl who inherits her childhood home, on the condition that she uncovers its dark secrets. It sounds like an amazing supernatural debut novel!
4. The Evolution of Claire
Publication Date: June 26th
This book is all about Bryce Dallas Howard’s character fromย Jurassic World which sounds fun! I love Tess Sharpe’s writing and hearing some of her journey about writing this book has been cool. It looks like that this book will explore her past but then show the place she’ll be in beforeย Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom comes out soon. I just want to support Tess Sharpe as a writer with her new YA book and this sounds fun ๐
5. Mirage #1
Publication Date: August 28th 2018
Oh man this book sounds truly unique! It’s a science fiction book where a girl is taken to the palace to be the exact body trouble of the princess that everyone hates. There’s also different moons and planet systems from what I have heard from other reviews AND it’s based on Moroccan inspired! It’s really cool to have a science fiction book with inspirations of Morrocco; I feel like fantasy gets more inspirations of other countries but I’m glad this is the opposite in this case. People have been saying that the male love interest reminds them of Aladdin (YES!) and the world is stunning. So I need it…hopefully I can get it!
6. A Touch of Gold
Publication Date: August 14th 2018
A retelling of the King Midas legend? YES PLEASE! If anyone remembers the third Aladdin movieย King of Thieves, you’ll remember that the movie deals with the King Midas legend and that was my favorite movie as a kid. Now there’s a book coming out about it! It’s about the daughter of Midas, who was almost killed by his touch. Her skin still shimmers with gold all these years later. So because of that, she’s locked away in the palace away from the public due to her curse. But when precious items are stolen from the castle, this girl sets out to find them and use her gold abilities to find them. This sounds like so much fun and this is a publisher I’m keeping my eye on ๐
7. This Cruel Design (This Mortal Coil #2)
Publication Date: October 30th 2018
WE HAVE A COVER AND DATE! The first book in this creepy sci-fi series was a major favorite of mine last year and I can’t wait to see what happens next. If you haven’t heard of this series, it deals with genetic hacking, manipulating your genes and appearance and other creepy science stuff. It’s truly imaginative and addictive read. October needs to hurry up, even though I’m really scared lol.
8. Impostors (Uglies #5)
Publication Date:ย September 11th 2018
REJOICE UGLIES FANS! The series is getting more books ๐ Westerfeld shared this news through his social media earlier this year with a video trailer. This new series follows the events after the original series and follows a new character. This series follows Frey who is a double of Rafi and has been taught to kill where Rafi is the opposite and that’s all I want to do. I’m really excited to see how things have changed since the revolution in the original series ๐
9. The Boneless Mercies
Publication Date: October 2nd 2018
Beowulf is one of the oldest stories around and they teach it in many schools in the US. While I found the story mostly interesting when I was young, I always thought that there could’ve been more to add to it. Now this is a female retelling of Beowulf! Isn’t that cool? I’m really wondering how they’ll present the Grendel character, the villain of the story. I haven’t read anything by this author, but this synopsis just sucks me in. Plus that cover is one of the best of the year ๐
10. A Thousand Endings and Beginnings
Publication Date: June 26th 2018
This is an upcoming YA anthology about stories from East and South Asia. It will include authors like Aisha Saeed, Ellen Oh, Renee Ahdieh, Julie Kagawa and many others. This stuff is important with more books/anthologies coming out about mythology from other parts of the world. I’m very excited to learn about some new stories I’ve never heard before and hopefully it’ll be a new favorite ๐
11. Contagion #1
Publication Date: July 24th 2018
There’s an SOS sent out into space and when people come to respond, the crew is dead. They start to go through the ship and realize something might be in there. This book has a space virus or possible aliens?! Yes please! I’ve been getting into a bit more horror related book like Courtney Alameda’s shelves. I hope this is intense and thrilling in every sense ๐ I believe this is the first in a duology.
12. Shadow of the Fox #1
Publication Date: October 2nd 2018
This is a Japanese fantasy set in a world where every one thousand years, whoever holds the Scroll of a Thousand Prayers gets one wish from the great Kami Dragon. The pieces of the scroll are being sought after by both demons and humans. This book, from what reviews have been saying, is that it includes kitsune shape shifters (fox), oni demons and plenty of action. I haven’t read anything by this author but she’s very popular and I have brief thoughts about this book coming Friday!
13. Grim Lovelies #1
Publication Date: October 2nd
Set in France, Anouk enives the human world, since she was once an animal turned human by her evil mistress Mada Vittoria. But when the evil mistress is killed, Anouk tries to find a way to stay human before turns back into an animal. This cover has been everywhere and the hype is growing so much for this book. I only read one short story by Shepherd in the anthologyย The Radical Elementย called “Lady Firebrand” and it was epic! I have read a sample of this book and I’ll give you more thoughts on Friday ๐
14. Seafire #1
Publication Date: August 28th 2018
Oh man this cover is seriously amazing! 2018 covers are really beautiful ๐ But this book follows Caledonia, who captians her own ship of a female crew on the sea. They set on an adventure to get revenge on the corrupted warlord Aric for their losses. This book has also been compared toย Wonder Womanย with the all female cast getting a high stakes adventure. Reviews are saying that the world building on the sea is incredible and that it’s a multiple POV story. I need this in my life so badly ๐
15. Seven Deadly Shadows
Publication Date: September 25th 2018
This book doesn’t have a cover yet but it’s written by Courtney Alameda and Valynne E. Maetaini and it’s about a girl who finds solace in her grandfather’s Shinto shrine after being bullied at school. But after realizing she can commune with demons, she has to partner with the seven shinigami to save modern day Kyoto from destruction. I love love Alameda’s writing and anything set in Japan (being an anime fan). I’m hoping we do get more about this book in the future and that it comes out this year ๐
16. Give the Dark My Love #1
Publication Date: September 25th 2018
Beth Revis has been an author I’ve heard about for a long time but I haven’t read anything by her. But this story is about a girl who wants to learn medicinal alchemy. There’s also a deadly plague going around and I think there could be necromancy involved. But this sounds really fun and exciting. Since listening toย Strange the Dreamerย I’ve been wanting more books surrounding alchemy ๐
There’s the end of round two for books I can’t wait to read! I don’t know if there will be a third one, but there’s new books being announced all the time so who knows? Which ones are you guys looking forward to?
Oh no! You made my list even longer! Mirage sounds excellent, and so does Seven Deadly Shadows ๐

So many interesting new releases! A Thousand Beginnings and Endings and Mirage would be on my list as well, I love stories inspired by mythology (especially if they’re not direct retellings).
I don’t know much about Give the Dark My Love but the synopsis is really intriguing and I’ve heard very good things about Beth Revis, so that’s another I’m looking forward to.
